The heart behind CROME
One life.
An ongoing
legacy.
Claudio Romero grew up in Ennis knowing what a community’s support could make possible. That support helped him earn a full-ride scholarship to Texas A&M University. He wanted to give that kindness back.
After Claudio passed away in February 2021, just months before graduation, CROME was created in his honor. Today, his belief in education, opportunity, and community lives on through every student we support.

This is what
support feels like.
Behind every award is a person
with a future worth believing in.
It’s more than financial support… it’s a community that believes in my potential.

A COMMUNITY IN YOUR CORNER.01Who can apply for a CROME scholarship?
High school seniors and current college students across Ellis County are welcome to apply. All majors and accredited institutions are welcome. We consider academic achievement, financial need, your goals, and your connection to CROME’s mission.
02Do I need to be accepted to college already?
No. You can apply while you are deciding on your next step. You will need acceptance to an accredited institution before scholarship funds can be disbursed.
03How long does the application take?
Allow about 5–10 minutes if your essays are ready, or 60–90 minutes if you are writing them as you go. Have your academic records, school information, and reference details ready. Financial information is optional.
04What will I need to submit?
The application has seven steps: personal information, academic background, financial need, your CROME connection, essay responses, additional information, and a final review. Choose at least one essay prompt and follow the word requirements shown in the application.
05Is there an application fee?
No. Applying for a CROME scholarship is completely free. Award amounts and deadlines are published for each application cycle.
06How do I know when applications reopen?
