Frequently Asked Questions
The application takes 5-10 minutes to complete if you already have your essays written. If you'll be writing your essays during the application session, allow 60-90 minutes. We recommend gathering all required information before starting, including your academic records, reference contact information, and financial details.
No, you can apply before being accepted to a college. However, you must be accepted to an accredited institution before scholarship funds can be disbursed.
Yes! The application automatically saves your progress in your browser's local storage as you complete each step. However, your draft will be lost if you: switch to a different browser or device, clear your browser data/cache, use incognito/private browsing mode, or close your browser in incognito mode. There is no automatic timeout - your data stays saved as long as you don't clear your browser storage. IMPORTANT: We strongly recommend writing and saving your essays in a separate document (like Google Docs or Word) BEFORE copying them into the application. Do not write your essays directly in the application text boxes without saving them elsewhere first, as unexpected browser issues could result in lost work.
Recipients are selected based on a holistic review of their application, considering academic dedication, financial need, future goals, alignment with CROME's mission, and the quality of their essay responses.
All applicants will be notified of the selection committee's decision within 6-8 weeks after the application deadline closes.
No! The CROME scholarship application is completely free. We believe financial barriers should never prevent students from applying for educational opportunities.
Absolutely! Current college students are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is available to both high school seniors and current college students pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degrees.

Honoring Claudio Romero's Legacy
In Memory of Claudio Romero (1999-2021)
Claudio Romero grew up in Ennis, Texas, surrounded by a close-knit community that believed in him and his potential. Through their generosity and encouragement, Claudio earned a full ride to Texas A&M University, an opportunity he never took for granted. His dream was to one day return that kindness by helping others in the same way they had helped him.
In February 2021, just months before Claudio was set to graduate college, his life was tragically cut short. To honor his memory and carry forward the dream he didn't get to fulfill, CROME was founded in his hometown of Ennis. The organization stands as a tribute to Claudio's selfless vision of giving back and uplifting the next generation.
CROME's mission is rooted in the values Claudio lived by: gratitude, community, and the belief that access to opportunities can transform lives. Through our work, we carry his spirit forward, creating a lasting impact in the lives of students and honoring his dream to give back to the place he called home.
